IMDEA Networks is one of the seven IMDEA research institutes founded in 2006 by Comunidad de Madrid. Its mission is to do research of excellence in networking, contributing to tackle the challenges of society and fostering the sustainable development of the region of Madrid. http://www.networks.imdea.org

Within this context, IMDEA Networks launches this Call to fill the position of Director of the Institute.

  • Position Description

    • The selected Director is expected to lead the Institute driving its scientific excellence and technology transfer activities. The Director will be responsible for:

    • Directing, promoting and supervising all the activities of the Institute, following the guidelines established by the Board of Trustees, and with the advice of the Scientific Council.
    • Hiring the personnel at the service of the Institute and acting as their hierarchical superior.
    • Coordinating the elaboration of the action plans of the Institute, determining its needs and resources, as well as the necessary means to achieve the aims of the Institute.
    • Formulating the formal budget and annual accounts.
    • Determining the distribution and application of the funds available for the purposes of the Institute, within the general limits established by the Board of Trustees as well as public and private competitive calls for R&D&I project financing.

    Requirements and eligibility criteria

    The candidates must demonstrate a high level in the following aspects:

  • Leadership and management skills. Experience in management of R&D centers.
  • Scientific and technological capacity in the area of networking.
  • Capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship in the area. Contribution to the transformation of the socioeconomic ecosystem of networking.
  • Capacity for communication and dissemination of scientific and technological advances in networking.

    • Within the above lines, the following specific skills will be very particularly valued:

  • Having an MBA or similar studies (in addition to having a PhD in the networking field).
  • Knowledge of the Spanish and European R&D ecosystems, including their funding bodies and regulations.
  • Expertise not only in research but also in the deployment and adoption of key networking technologies such as 5G or 6G.
  • Proven experience in leading high-volume R&D activities involving large budgets, efforts and teams is a must for this position.
  • Evaluation and selection of candidates.

    • In accordance with the Institute’s Bylaws, the Director shall be appointed by the Board of Trustees among persons of prestige in the field of networking, qualified for the position and with demonstrable experience in directing groups, projects and institutions.

    Candidates will be evaluated based on requirements and eligibility criteria. The Scientific Council shall advise the Board of Trustees in the selection process.

    Each candidate will be notified individually of the decision of selection or non-selection resulting from the process.
