What We Are Looking for

ISGlobal is currently seeking a dedicated laboratory technician or postdoctoral researcher who shares our passion for advancing diagnostic solutions for infectious diseases. This exciting position involves working on multiple projects focused on the development of biosensors, specifically targeting neglected tropical diseases such as dengue, strongyloidiasis, and schistosomiasis.

As a valued member of our team, the selected candidate will become part of the Travel Medicine group led by Prof. M.D. Muñoz. Our dynamic and multidisciplinary team includes medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, biotechnologists, and epidemiologists. Together, we aim to seamlessly integrate patient care and scientific research, focusing on infectious diseases related to travel medicine and other neglected diseases.

Reporting directly to Prof. Parolo, the candidate will play a crucial role in supporting ongoing projects and spearheading new initiatives in the development of novel biosensing strategies and devices. The successful applicant will contribute significantly to maintaining our positive working environment, fostering collaboration and innovation within the team and the institute.
 

 


Key Responsibilities/Specific Duties

Taking a leadership role in a recently awarded project aimed at the development of a DNA scaffold sensor for Strongyloidiasis. 
Develop biosensors specific for different analytes related to dengue, strongyloidiasis, schistosomiasis.
Provide support and supervision to current laboratory members carrying out their PhD thesis.
Take responsibility for purchasing materials and other administrative duties related to laboratory work.
If necessary, provide support for other laboratory activities such as 1) handling, processing, and storing of patient samples; and 2) discovery of new biomarkers using techniques such as Luminex and Ella.
Present results in both written and oral formats, either internally or at national and international meetings and conferences.

  • Background in biotechnology, analytical chemistry, material science, or a similar field.
  • PhD in life Science (Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biology...) or equivalent level of experience as laboratory technician. 
  • Demonstrated ability to write peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Demonstrated ability to orally present scientific results.

Specific Requirements
Specific Requirements
  • Knowledge of designing, developing, and validating electrochemical and optical biosensors.
  • Familiarity with complementary laboratory techniques (e.g., ELISA, PCR, Luminex, Nanoparticle synthesis and functionalization etc.).
  • Familiarity with aptamer selection/functionalization, protein synthesis/purification and handling patient samples will be positively evaluated but are not essential.
