Computational post-doc on single-cell transcriptomics

Updated: almost 3 years ago
Location: Hospitalet De Llobregat L, CATALUNA
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 15 Aug 2021

IDIBELL is looking for a computational postdoctoral researcher to join the Gene Regulation of Cell Identity Group.

The successful applicant will lead an independent research project on single-cell transcriptomics. The project will be focused on understanding how RNA binding proteins (RBPs) contribute to neural differentiation and how the transcriptomic networks regulated by these RBPs are altered in the development of neurodegenerative diseases. For this purpose, the candidate will be expected to develop new computational tools to identify and characterize gene regulatory networks (GRNs) controlled by RBPs using single-cell transcriptomics and investigate (i) how these GRNs contributed to neural differentiation and (ii) how GRNs are altered In Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, they will collaborate in additional research projects ongoing in the lab related to the study of gene regulation using single-cell transcriptomics.

Research at the Gene Regulation of Cell Identity Group, led by Dr. Mireya Plass, aims at understanding how post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms and their regulators, mainly RBPs and microRNAs, are involved in the establishment of cellular identity and how their dysregulation contributes to the development of neurodegenerative diseases. For this purpose, we use induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model neural differentiation in humans and study their differentiation process using a combination of molecular biology techniques with high-throughput omics and computational tools.

About the research group

The Gene Regulation of Cell Identity Group was born at the end of 2019 with the aim of better understanding the role of post-transcriptional regulation in the establishment of cell identity from a systems biology perspective. With that goal in mind, the group is growing towards integrating a multidisciplinary team of molecular and computational biologists. Current research in the lab involves single-cell transcriptomics, computational method development, iPSCs, and gene-editing using the CRISPR-Cas9 systems.

Our institute

IDIBELL is located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, south of Barcelona. It is a member of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Barcelona (HUBc) and Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA). IDIBELL’s research focuses on cancer, neuroscience, translational medicine and regenerative medicine. Research, innovation and society are the pivots on which researchers work every day in order to improve the quality of life of citizens. In 2009, IDIBELL became one of the first five Spanish research centers accredited as a health research institute by the Health Institute Carlos III. In 2015, the European Commission recognized IDIBELL with the ‘HR Excellence in Research’  award, which identifies IDIBELL as a provider and supporter of a stimulating research work environment.
