Job title: Large scale wind energy harvesting: A CFD study on aeroelastic performance
Research line / Scientific-technical services: renewable energies – energy harvesting
This hiring call for an Associate researcher aims at incorporating into the research team an expert in CFD modelling that would participate in the fulfilling of the scientific goals of the research Project TED2021-132243B-I00 “Large scale wind energy harvesting: A CFD study of aeroelastic response”. In accordance with the project objectives, the researcher will contribute to the following goals:
a) 3D CFD model definition based on the application of the Synthetic Turbulence Method (STM).
b) Application of the STM to obtain the aerodynamic response of a static ratio 3:2 rectangular cylinder (RC) under turbulent flow.
c) Application of the STM to obtain the aeroelastic response of a free-to-oscillate 3:2 RC under turbulent flow.
d) 3D CFD model definition based on the rod-induced small-scale turbulent flow.
e) Application of the rod-induced small-scale turbulence method to obtain the aerodynamic response of the static 3:2 RC.
f) Application of the rod-induced small-scale turbulence method to obtain the aeroelastic response of a free to-oscillate 3:2 RC.
g) Analysis of the galloping response under turbulent flow considering nonlinear mechanical behaviour between loads and displacements.
The duration of the contract is one year, which can be extended until the end of the project (30/11/2024).
The hired researcher will take responsibility for the following tasks:
a) 3D CFD models, using LES and RANS turbulence models.
b) Postprocessing of results.
c) Writing of scientific articles and diffusion to different audiences of the results of the project.
d) Structural analysis in linear and nonlinear regimes.
e) Implementation of analytical models and development of software codes.
