Job description:

Your Mission:

Would you like to take part in the development of a new scientific instrument? We are offering a challenging bachelor/master thesis project at our department in Almeria, Spain!

We are developing a multispectral infrared imager within international research projects, in order to measure temperature and emissivity maps of solar thermal tower central receivers. The knowledge of the temperature and emissivity are both critical for a solar thermal tower power plant, in order to guarantee an efficient operation of the thermal receiver on the one hand, while monitoring any degradation of the receiver coating on the other hand.

You will be engaged in developing further a software routine for the image processing of multispectral datacubes, applicable for different test configurations. Raw infrared images have to be processed stepwise, in order to derive temperature and emissivity maps applying ratio thermography.

Your tasks:

  • you will develop a software routine in MATLAB (Image Processing Toolbox) for the automatic digital image post-processing of multispectral infrared datacubes.
  • you will evaluate different image correction algorithms in the imaging process:
  • non-Uniformity Correction (NUC)
  • high Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI)
  • intensity based image registration
  • model based atmospheric compensation

You will suggest improvement measures in the image acquisition process, in order to optimize the measurement accuracy.
