Offer Description
We are seeking a highly qualified, talented, independent individual with a high level of initiative to be part of a
dynamic and multidisciplinary team of scientists and technicians working on different biodiversity projects in the
Balearic Islands.
Tasks:
1) Providing technical support for activities and daily tasks in the genetic lab at the Balearic Centre for Biodiversity, in
accordance with specific protocols and safety standards.
2) Providing logistical and administrative support for organisational tasks in the lab, including protocols, inventories
and procurement.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate knowledge and skills for genetic lab work, attention to detail, an
ability to work under minimal supervision from the very beginning, and knowledge in taxonomy and biodiversity.
Moreover, special consideration will be given to candidates with knowledge of currently used lab techniques at the
Balearic Centre for Biodiversity.

Workplace:
The Balearic Centre for Biodiversity (CBB, https://centrebaleardebiodiversitat.uib.es/ ) has been established as a research hub and a scientific and technical support service for R&D&i research centres and universities, government
administrators and the private sector. The CBB plays a standout role in: 1) generating, managing and maintaining
benchmark natural history collections; 2) establishing a genetic lab for biodiversity; 3) generating, maintaining and
managing geophysical, environmental, genetic and genomic metadatabases on populations and communities, and 4)
training scientists and promoting information about biodiversity in the Balearic Islands.
The data stored at the centre will enable us to provide comprehensive details about regional biodiversity to make
them accessible for different areas: science, politics, law-making, administration, industry, society and education.
The successful candidate is expected to play an active role in the CBB working group and contribute to establishing and implementing the centre’s goals.

Skills/Qualifications
A Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or similar.
Specific Requirements
- A creative, flexible and open-minded individual, willing to take on technical and professional challenges
- Good communication skills and an ability to clearly convey their knowledge to members of a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge in the theoretical foundations of daily technical work in a genetic lab
- Particular consideration will be given to candidates with experience in scientific activities such as publications,
conference participation, etc. as well as experience and an interest in taxonomy and biodiversity.
Language requeriments
Successful candidates must have an excellent level of English and Spanish and/or Catalan as working languages.
Prior experience
- Practical experience in genetic lab work or molecular biology
- Specific lab experience in: 1) updating and problem-solving with RNA/DNA extraction protocols; 2) proven
experience with quantitative PCR; 3) RNA/DNA quality quantification and assessment, and 4) designing, updating
and problem-solving with PCR protocols, restriction enzyme digestion and electrophoresis.

Eligibility criteria
• Curricular merits in the field (max. 40 points).
• Qualifications in the specialist area (max. 20 points), other (max. 5 points).
• Video curriculum and, if applicable, personal interview (max. 20 points).
• Experience in the field (max. 15 points). E.g.: > 3 years (10 points), < 3 years (5 points).
• Other merits (max. +5 points). E.g.: recommendation letters.
Eligibility threshold: 60 points.
Selection process
In accordance with article 8 of the REGULATORY AGREEMENT 145140 of 15th June 2022 that approves the
regulation governing the recruitment of research staff under chapter 6 allocation of the university budget, as well as
technical or operational research staff.
i. The relevant Pro-Vice-Chancellor for research (or delegated representative) as chair.
ii. The supervisor (or delegated representative).
iii. The members of the Research Area Assessment Committee (CARAI).
iv. One or more expert members in the topic pertaining to the recruitment and chosen by the chair of the committee,
where applicable.
v. The head of FORHU (or delegated representative), as secretary, who may speak but not vote.
