Offer Description

The successful candidate will be tutored, supervised and trained by C. Vich, and collaborate with Prof. Timothy Verstynen (CMU, Psychology) and Prof. Jonathan Rubin (University of Pittsburgh, Mathematics). In this sense, they will occasionally visit the US-based team. The project specifically focuses on how the dynamics of cortico-basal ganglia-thalamus pathways fit cognitive models of adaptive decision-making and how these circuits regulate information flows in mammal brains. We are seeking highly-motivated and independently-minded candidates with a keen interest in computational neuroscience and substantial computational experience. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with excellent oral and written English, as well as sound programming skills (preferably in Python).

Skills/Qualifications

Candidates should ideally have a degree in mathematics, physics or engineering. Holding a master’s degree in mathematical biology, computational biology or related areas would be a plus.


Specific Requirements

We are seeking highly-motivated and independently-minded candidates with a keen interest in computational neuroscience and substantial computational experience. The required documentation for candidates to submit must include the e-mail address of two individuals, who will be requested to write a letter of reference. The letters shall be sent directly to the university by the referees (without any candidate involvement).

Language requeriments

Particular consideration will be given to candidates with excellent oral and written English, as well as sound programming skills (preferably in Python).

Eligibility criteria

• Curricular merits in the field (max. 40 points).

• Qualifications in the specialist area (max. 20 points), other (max. 5 points).

• Video curriculum and, if applicable, personal interview (max. 20 points).

• Experience in the field (max. 15 points). E.g.: > 3 years (10 points), < 3 years (5 points). • Other merits (max. +5 points). E.g.: recommendation letters.

Eligibility threshold: 60 points.


Selection process

In accordance with article 8 of the REGULATORY AGREEMENT 145140 of 15th June 2022 that approves the regulation governing the recruitment of research staff under chapter 6 allocation of the university budget, as well as technical or operational research staff.

i. The relevant Pro-Vice-Chancellor for research (or delegated representative) as chair.

ii. The supervisor (or delegated representative).

iii. The members of the Research Area Assessment Committee (CARAI).

iv. One or more expert members in the topic pertaining to the recruitment and chosen by the chair of the committee, where applicable.

v. The head of FORHU (or delegated representative), as secretary, who may speak but not vote.
