Senior post-doctoral researcher
We are seeking to appoint a senior post-doctoral researcher to work on the TIME-LINES project (Island TIME-LINES to quantify biodiversity change), funded under the ERC Consolidator 2021 call.
We are looking for a collegiate and creative senior postdoctoral researcher with demonstrated research expertise in palaeoecology with quantitative skills.
The main goal of TIME-LINES is to quantify on islands, ~5000 years of ranges of variability at local and global scale, with the ultimate aim to uncover geographical variation in plant biodiversity, both taxonomically and functionally, and the drivers of this change. The post is available from 1st October 2022.
The TIME-LINES team is interested in island ecology and specially bringing palaeoecology and biogeography together to quantify how fast, where, and why biodiversity is changing.
From these findings, we hope to address to what degree historically informed baselines and change trajectories have utility for sustainable biodiversity management.
She/He is expected to:
- Analyse large palaeoecological datasets including (but not limited) to fossil pollen, sedaDNA, isotops, etc. from islands.
- Carry out laboratory work involving palaeoecological techniques such as fossil pollen.
- Undertake cutting-edge scientific research, and publish in appropriate, leading journals.
- Travelling to conferences, visits to collaborators, and fieldwork is expected.
Able to work collaboratively with the TIME-LINES team. Assist in project management tasks, including the coordination of TIME-LINES team with collaborators, to achieve the planned milestones and deliverables of the project.
Job position requirements (skills/languages/required experience)
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Biology/ Environmental Science or a related discipline.
Previous experience in analysing large palaeoecological datasets with R are highly encourage.
Proficient in English
For this senior postdoctoral position is requried more than 4-6 years of postdoctoral experience.
The successful candidate will have a record, appropriate for their career stage, of high-quality research publications and experience of winning research grants, particularly in palaeoecological topics.
Research experience on laboratory and analysis of fossil pollen time-series, as evidenced from prior scientific publications.
Expertise in managing and analyzing large databases of palaeoecological time-series.
They will also have ability and commitment to work both independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary and International team.
Availability to travel to conference and fieldwork.
Advance level of English.
International working experience.
Ability to create and contribute to a well-functioning, inclusive and productive research environment
Benefits:
Salary range (gross salary) 37000-40000€
Full-time contract
We are offering a 3 years initially with possibility of 1 or 2 years extension.
