The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona invites applications for the Lowell Program (https://lpeg.geo.arizona.edu/ ) Chair in Economic Geology, a tenure-track faculty position to be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek applicants interested in carrying out innovative education and research related to mineral resource exploration and extraction, including environmental sustainability. Arizona is a key critical metal-producing state, and the Department of Geosciences has a strong tradition of excellence and collaboration with industry in the study of mineral deposits. The Lowell Program in Economic Geology, which is within Geosciences, is an integral contributor to the new state-funded School of Mining and Mineral Resources (https://mining.arizona.edu/) that brings together mineral resources expertise from ten colleges across campus.

The successful candidate is expected to join other faculty at the University of Arizona in capitalizing on the state, private, and industry support of critical minerals studies, building a program of excellence and leadership in the instruction/mentorship of students at all levels, and in research. A requirement of the position is to innovate and coordinate training programs in mineral resource geology, ideally combining academic and industry applied experiences. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required. Review of applications will begin March 15, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.
