Job Description

The need for effective communication amongst designers, architects, and engineers, has become a forefront issue for the university. In support of this, the Division of Industrial Design (DID) now offers a compulsory module titled Creating Narratives.

To adequately scale this course offering, the Division of Industrial Design is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join our team of tutors who work in a team-teaching environment. Responsibilities include course coordination and delivery, content development, and assessment. The current iteration of the course uses a Blended Learning model, delivered using a synchronous and asynchronous (video) teaching model.

Course content is focused on the importance of storytelling for communication, information, and persuasion. It teaches students the visual components to support these concepts such as organizational principles, typographic hierarchy and layout, visualization strategies, color usage, and presentation skills. Textual components will be supported in collaboration with tutors from CELC (Centre for English Language Communication).

We are currently looking for dynamic, passionate and inspirational teaching assistants who have a clear knowledge of visual communication practices. You will also need to be able to communicate concepts effective to students and contribute to continued improvements to content and teaching pedagogy.

The candidate will actively work with the faculty content creator and lead instructor. The candidate will be responsible for co-teaching multiple sections of the course module (approximately 25 students). The candidate will also assist in developing online content to be delivered asynchronously in subsequent semesters. In this scenario the candidate will provide feedback and assessment during class hours and consultations, as students work through a series of communication applications.
