The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) invites applications for the position of Senior Research Fellow.

The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities. 

Our department is seeking to hire a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) who will perform bioinformatic analysis using large-scale of whole genome sequencing datasets we have generated in the GenomeAsia 100K project. The SRF will participate in conducting data analysis and can develop the career in the international collaborative project.

The description and requirements for the job are below.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for performing data analysis using whole genome sequencing datasets accurately.
  • Variant calling for complicated gene regions such as immune gene clusters.
  • Interpret the analysis results properly with strong background of population genetic and genomics
  • Reporting and presenting the analysis results for further communication and sharing with collaborators
  • Writing draft manuscripts for research articles
  • Any other tasks as deemed necessary by the reporting officer and management


Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Human Genetic, Genomics or related discipline
  • Good knowledge of Population genomics, Immunology, Human genetics, and Bioinformatics
  • Good expertise in handling genome sequencing data
  • Preferably more than 7 years of research experience
  • Excellent skill sets in programming/scripting in Unix/Linux operating system and bioinformatic tools
  • Extensive experience in high supercomputing cluster computers
  • Address scientific questions and conduct the research independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Capable to work and develop collaborative projects
  • Strong work ethics and research integrity
