The Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence (MESD CoE) was launched in October 2017 and jointly funded by Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). MESD aims to be a leading global translational research centre in maritime energy and sustainable development. Job Description
The MESD Centre of Excellence is searching for Senior Research Fellows to work on research projects aimed at exploring alternative fuels and energy sources for the maritime industry. The Senior Research Fellows will investigate the solutions of alternative fuels and energy sources and assess their compatibility for maritime applications, including onboard trial. Additionally, they will be responsible for preparing project reports and papers for publications, conducting experiments, and making presentations to stakeholders. The Senior Research Fellows will also perform tasks related to programme management and centre operations. They will have the opportunity to lead their own research topics, identify research areas relevant to maritime energy and sustainable development, liaise with project stakeholders, and work with the management team on strategic planning and centre operations.
Job Requirements
Ph.D. in Maritime Studies, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Capable of using software tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, BOOST, CRUISE, EXCITE, FIRE, PSIM, ASPEN HYSYS, etc
Have an extensive understanding of decarbonization initiatives
Good analytical and comprehensive skills for literature review
Working experience in the maritime industry or alternative fuels will be an advantage
Ability to develop and manage R&D projects with a good understanding of industrial needs
A good team member with good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the capability to work independently
Good command of English, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individual and professional groups
Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
