The Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporation Laboratory invites applications for the position of Senior Research Engineer II. As a Senior Research Engineer II, you will play a key role in Rolls-Royce@NTU Corporation Laboratory by focusing on the industrialisation development of Electrical components & subsystems in various businesses including Aerospace. You will work with and provide technical support to a global group of electrical engineers in a cross functional integrated product team (IPT) environment and with industry partners to deliver on industrialisation objectives according to Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) procedures.

 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, validate and continuously improve the methods of manufacture of Airborne Electronic Hardware which are capable of meeting requirements for safety, quality, cost and lead time

  • Work with the product design teams to identify design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for cost requirements, contribute to product design with manufacturability in mind, and educate design engineers regarding production processes particularly focusing on electronics manufacturing

  • Capture, analyse and use data to demonstrate and improve the capability of manufacturing methods

  • Identify, develop and implement innovative ways of working for NPI products

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the manufacturing when technical issues occur

  • Exercise professional judgment to address issues quickly and provide feedback to affected parties

  • Work with interfacing teams, local experts, partners and suppliers to ensure technical aspects of manufacturing processes are understood and accounted for as required

  • Directly interface with representatives of the Customer and the Regulator, ultimately to demonstrate compliance

  • Active participation and support in DFMEA & PFMEA processes and analysis of assembly processes

  • Accountable for compliance to company policies, processes and procedures, ensuring all records and documentations are correct and maintained in line with regulatory requirements.

  • Support make/buy decisions

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in engineering discipline (Electrical / Electronics/ Mechanical/ Aerospace) with experience working in a NPI manufacturing environment

  • Working experience in a LEAN production environment, knowledge and application of LEAN 6 Sigma principles

  • Experience defining or updating assembly or inspection processes would be highly desirable

  • Manufacturing engineering experience with electronics manufacturing process, mechanical parts fabrication, test & verification and new product introduction is desirable

  • Mindset to support the manufacturing technologies and focus in productization

  • Experience in working with and managing suppliers and partners

  • Knowledge and understanding of process control and problem investigation tools (PFMEAs, control plans, RCA, 7 step, 5 whys etc.)

  • A proven track record of delivering results and driving innovative change

  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and Digital Manufacturing leveraging on AI, Machine Learning, Automation, Robotics etc will be desirable.

  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills capable of building good working relationships within the organisation

  • Global outlook and exposure to different challenges, cultures and ways of working

  • Knowledge of non-conformance management

  • Negotiation skills, pragmatic and flexible attitude

  • Previous use of Polarion, Minitab, Teamcenter, SAP

  • Project Management knowledge and usage

  • Having NPI experience as a project team member in a cross functional team across global sites is an advantage
