Job Description

The Net Zero Futures Lab (NZFL) at SUTD Design Z Centre is seeking a full-time Research Assistants/Associates.

The successful candidate will be involved in a research project developing Building Sensing Devices for Net Zero Buildings, under supervision of Asst. Professor Peter Ortner and EPD Senior Lecturer Kwan Wei Lek. EPD Professor Tan Mei Chee and ISTD Professor Simon Perrault are collaborating faculty. A background in electrical engineering, engineering product design is required.

NZFL is an interdisciplinary research group working on disruptive innovations for a Net Zero built environment. Our research leadership bring expertise from material science, product development, computer science and architecture together to conduct interdisciplinary research and develop new products, including negative carbon solutions.

About the position

This position is ideal for someone who is excited about electrical engineering and sustainability research, and looking for a future career in building sensing, building management or sustainability tracking and reporting.

Responsibilities/expectations will include:

  • Refine custom sensor kits for net zero buildings: design, assemble and debug kits using Espressif MCUs and a variety of sensors.
  • Collect and analyze data from sensor kits installed in building spaces.
  • Work with cloud database (AWS) to retrieve and visualize dynamic building data.
  • Support principal investigators in writing technical papers and project reports.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team of computer scientists, engineers and architects.
  • Communicate research with public and private stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Work with principal investigators to craft research proposals.

 Duration

 This is a contract position. The initial term of appointment will be 1 year, extensible for a second year upon satisfactory performance and with further extensions dependent on funding availability.

Required/Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Engineering Product Development (EPD), or equivalent.
  • Proficient with C, C++, Arduino.
  • Experience in printed circuit board design and manufacturing will be considered favourably.
  • Willingness to engage with integrating sensor data into web-based data visualization using Javascript in collaboration with other team members.
