Job Description

 

The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI), National University of Singapore is a Research Centre of Excellence dedicated to interrogating the biological systems from a physical and mechanical perspective. We are a multidisciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration, and function.

 

Our Science Communications team is looking for a new member to help promote the scientific output and research staff of MBI within the institute and at the university-level, as well as to MBI partners, external research organisations, and the public.


Responsibilities

 

  • Structure, write, edit and design visually impactful research updates, press releases, in-house brochures, newsletters, annual reports, and proactively develop content for the MBI website and other promotional materials to showcase MBI research
  • Build good working relationships with MBI researchers (Principal Investigators, Research Fellows, Graduate Students) to ensure a regular supply of fresh content such as research updates, and other public awareness stories
  • Develop website and regular social media content (including audio and visual material, where appropriate) to raise awareness and grow the online profile of MBI
  • Provide support in preparing high-quality presentations and grant applications for media events, conferences, and grant calls

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognised university, preferably in science or engineering with very good communication ability, or in journalism/communications/English with a proven science and engineering interest
  • Ability to understand and translate complex interdisciplinary scientific content, and target content to both scientific and public audiences as needed
  • Experience with website development and print publishing
  • Experience in capturing audio/visual footage and video editing is advantageous
  • Familiarity with technologies involved in social media
  • Highly motivated, resourceful and results driven
  • Ability to interact with a team of dynamic, interdisciplinary, international scientists, researchers and other technical experts, and be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
