The Earth Observatory in Singapore (EOS) at NTU Singapore is a national science Research Center of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to work on environmental geochemistry and atmospheric chemistry in Southeast Asia in Southeast Asia.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform extensive field sampling on aerosols and rainwater samples in Southeast Asia (e.g., Thailand, Singapore)

  • Develop high-precision geochemical techniques to analyze trace metal concentration and isotope ratios in environmental samples

  • Operate and maintain the state-of-the-art wet chemistry clean room and high-resolution mass spectrometers

  • To participate in mentoring RAs and students at EOS/ASE

  • Work with international collaborators in both fields and labs

  • Actively participate in various education and outreach activities

  • Publish scientific outcomes of the research in international peer-reviewed journals

Job Requirements

  • A PhD degree with a major in geochemistry or related fields in geology, chemistry, atmosphere or marine science

  • Familiar with environmental geochemistry, atmospheric chemistry, ocean chemistry and climatology

  • Have extensive field experience

  • Strong experience working in a wet chemistry clean lab for trace metal separation

  • Able to independently operate and maintain mass spectrometers, including Q-ICP-MS, HR-ICP-MS and MC-ICP-MS

  • Fluent in English speaking and writing, and have published scientific papers in high-quality research journals

  • Desirable if he/she has experience in mentoring students/researchers in fields/labs

  • Enthusiasm in research, good spirit in teamwork and collaboration
