Research Fellow (Waste Heat Harvesting and Wearable Sensors)

Updated: 2 months ago

Job Description

We are looking for a post-doctoral research fellow who will work with Prof. Massimo Alioto and Prof. Tan Swee Ching targeting at the waste heat harvesting and wearable sensors base on thermoelectric hydrogels/ionogels.

Recently, wearable electronics and sensors have attracted great attention for various applications including human-machine interaction, health monitoring and wireless communication. However, the frequent and inconvenient charging issue significantly restrict their further developments. Fortunately, flexible thermoelectric hydrogels/ionogels can be utilized to harvest body heat to supply electricity to those wearable electronics, liberating them from heavy, rigid and inconvenient charging devices. Moreover, thermoelectric hydrogels/ionogels can also be directly designed into decoupled temperature/humidity/strain sensors based on their environment-determined thermoelectric performances.

The candidate will work with Prof. Tan and other team members to design and fabricate thermoelectric-based materials, structures and devices for the purpose of wearable electronics and power generation. The candidate may also be advised to help Prof. Alioto and Prof. Tan to supervise Ph.D., master, or undergraduate students on their projects.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess:

•    Candidates must uphold values of scientific integrity, honesty, teamwork, and pride in their work.
•    Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other related field.
•    Skilled in materials synthesis and characterization with fluent English writing.
•    Experience in ionic thermoelectric materials and devices is preferred.
•    Have solid understanding about the device physics of hydrogel/electrode systems.
•    Open to fixed term contract.
