Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Centre for Sustainable Materials (SusMat) at the School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore is seeking a highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher or a recent PhD graduate to join our research team. The successful candidate will have expertise in polymer synthesis, specifically in the synthesis, modification, and characterization of water-soluble polythiophenes. The primary objective of this position is to develop a fluorescence-based assay by utilizing either polythiophenes or polythiophene-peptide hybrids as the reporter molecules. A strong background in polymer chemistry, as well as experience in UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments to synthesize novel polythiophenes with a focus on optimizing their optical properties for fluorescence-based sensing applications.

  • Employ advanced biophysical characterization techniques to analyze and investigate the properties of the synthesized polymers.

  • Develop and validate a fluorescence-based assay utilizing polythiophenes as sensing elements. This will involve optimizing the assay conditions, evaluating its sensitivity, selectivity, and reproducibility, and exploring potential applications.

  • Act as a key resource for the research team by offering expertise in organic and polymer chemistry. Support and guide the team members in their research efforts, providing technical advice and troubleshooting when necessary.

  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, and prepare reports, presentations, and scientific manuscripts based on research findings.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field

  • Strong background and hands-on experience in polymer synthesis, particularly in the synthesis, modification, and characterization of water-soluble polythiophenes. Proficiency in UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy is required.

  • Demonstrate ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot experimental challenges. Experience with biophysical characterization techniques is highly desirable.

  • Prior experience in developing fluorescence-based assays or sensors is advantageous. Knowledge of designing sensing elements and optimizing assay conditions will be beneficial.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to prepare scientific reports, present research findings, and publish in reputable scientific journals.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
