MODELING AND CO-OPTIMIZATION OF POLYMER NANOCOMPOSITE ELECTRO-MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Job Description – Polymer nanocomposites have been a hot topic of research in the last few years given their diverse applications in fields spanning aerospace engineering, civil and structural engineering, flexible and wearable electronics as well as in structural health management. The choice of the nanotube filler material and its impact on the polymer matrix have to be studied and optimized for the best performance of the nanocomposite in terms of its electrical conductance as well as mechanical robustness and weight / per unit volume of the material. This requires the development of network conductance models accounting for the geometric distribution and placement of fillers in the polymer matrix and their impact on the mechanical stress-strain properties as well. A multi-objective multi-constraint problem needs to be solved here to enable the design of polymer nanocomposites that best suits a particular end application.

Job Skills – Candidate should have a solid background in charge transport in nanoscale materials, machine learning, Markov Chain Monte Carlo and other heuristic optimization techniques as well as a good knowledge of mechanics of materials and percolation theory. Multi-scale stochastic finite element and Monte Carlo based methods will need to be developed to model, simulate and optimize the properties of the polymer nanocomposite material. Some basic knowledge of inverse design would be an added benefit.

Job Requirements - Positions are immediately available for talented candidates with background in the above mentioned topics. Candidate should be from a modeling / simulation background in applied physics / computational materials science / nanoelectronics / nanotechnology / mechanics of materials. The project will require a sound knowledge of statistics and optimization theories and it is preferable that the candidate has a strong interest in applying statistical knowhow to the field of nanotechnology.

Job Application Process - Please apply for the position through this job portal. Suitable candidates will be contacted for Skype Interview. Positions begin immediately and remain open until the right candidate is found. This post-doc position is available for a period of 12 months and subject to good performance, will be extended further by another 12 months. Salaries offered are competitive ranging from S$5000 – S$6500 per month depending on past work experience with very low taxes and insurance benefits.
