Research Fellow (Microbial Ecology)

The Asian School of the Environment at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore is currently seeking to recruit a Research Fellow for an interdisciplinary project aimed at comprehending the function of the sea surface layer in tropical coastal waters. The Research Fellow will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers for conducting field and environmental experiments. They will also be responsible for designing and implementing research experiments, developing new methods, processing samples, and conducting statistical analyses. Additionally, they will play a crucial role in training both field and laboratory students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for planning experiments and formulating hypothesis on role of the microbiome in the SSL

• Coordinate the logistics of environmental and laboratory experiments.

• Analyze and interpret data obtained from experiments using appropriate statistical tools.

• Draft manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and present re search findings at scientific conferences.

• Help to train and supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory.

• Collaborate with other members of the research team and establish collaborations with other researchers or institutions.

Job Requirements:

• PhD in environmental science, biological science or equivalent

• Experience with microscopy for virus enumeration

• Experience with flow cytometry for microbial enumeration

• Experience with field sampling in the marine environment

• Knowledge of viral taxonomy (particularly RNA viruses)

• Knowledge of R scripting for statistical analysis of metagenomic data

• Knowledge of DNA extraction and quantification

• Advanced knowledge of PCR and molecular techniques
