Offer Description

Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore is a multidisciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences, including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration, and function.

We are looking for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Ministry of Education Academic Research Fund Tier 3 project “Endomembrane System Architecture, Dynamics, and Functions in Aging Cells and Tissues”  as part of a collaborative group led by Prof. Jacques Prost (Institut Curie, France) and Dr. Tetsuya Hiraiwa (Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica, Taiwan).

This project will involve developing theoretical studies and computer simulation on chromatin organization and dynamic (e.g. How enzymatic activity is involved in chromatin organization ). The chosen candidate will generate research simulating chromatin's organization and dynamic when the system boundary (~nucleus envelope) is non-spherical and/ or deformable. He/ she will also utilize mathematical models and computational codes established in the aforementioned work to carry out simulations and analyses.

The chosen candidate will be based at the Mechanobiology Institute (MBI), NUS in Singapore and work on the project in collaboration with MBI-based teams, with regular supervision by Prof. Jacques Prost and Dr. Tetsuya Hiraiwa. The MBI is an internationally recognized research center where biologists and physicists work closely together to research topics ranging from cell biology to tissue mechanics and developmental biology. MBI comprises more than 10 groups engaged in a high level of scientific activity, with tight collaborations across groups. The chosen candidate can benefit from its open lab concept and atmosphere to cultivate their research skills and collaborative partnerships.

  • A PhD in physics, biology or related fields
  • Knowledge and mastery of computer simulations and quantitative analysis on biophysical systems
  • Prior experience in theoretical physical biology, or soft matter physics would be very advantageous
