Research fellow in the Laboratory of Assistant Professor Foo Jia Nee

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) established in September 2010 is a partnership between Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The School operates from two campuses – Yunnan Campus at Nanyang Technological University and a new campus to be built at Novena. Our primary healthcare partner is the National Healthcare Group (NHG) which comprises an integrated network of primary healthcare polyclinics, acute care hospitals such as Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and national specialist centres. LKCMedicine delivers a new five-year undergraduate medical programme leading to a joint MBBS degree awarded by Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University.

Our research focuses on using the latest genetics and genomics technologies to understand neurological diseases, especially neurodegenerative diseases. We are also interested in the functional follow-up of genetics findings in human pluripotent stem-cell based models. For more information, please visit:

We are looking to recruit a research fellow with a strong background and interest in human disease genetics and/or neuroscience, with strong inclination for a career in academia or industry. This individual is expected to:

  • Lead key projects in the laboratory involving either large-scale resequencing and analysis of human DNA samples or in vitro modelling of human genetic diseases

  • Be responsible for statistical and bioinformatics analyses of sequencing data

  • Work closely with research assistants/associates, students and collaborators to evaluate, troubleshoot and optimize experimental protocols

  • Maintain frequent contact and communication with collaborators

  • Keep up to date with latest research in the field of genetics and neuroscience

  • Participate actively in discussions, writing manuscripts and grant applications

Our laboratory is based at Genome Institute of Singapore, A*STAR, Biopolis as well as Clinical Sciences Building in the LKCMedicine Novena campus.

Background and qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences (preferably related to the field of genetics and/or neuroscience) from an internationally renowned university

  • Research experience in molecular biology, cell biology, neuroscience, next generation sequencing analysis, single-cell genomics/transcriptomics, or statistics and bioinformatics

  • Knowledge in coding (perl, C/C++, java, python, R etc) will be an advantage

  • Self-motivated, independent and well-organized, with excellent technical and communication skills

  • First-authored publications in reputable biomedical journals will be a major advantage
