As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.
The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop Shore Charging Infrastructure for Electric Harbour Craft.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
- Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
- Assist with installation and commissioning of solar PV as part of the terminal microgrid
- Conduct load flow studies to understand key parameters for charging infrastructure performance and evaluation of energy transfer efficiency for shore-to-vessel fast charging systems
- Produce analysis report of existing port electrical network and load capacity, grid capacity constraints at selected terminals and forecast charging capacity requirement for full electric vessels.
- Produce analysis report and models on charging demand profiles for charging network planning
- Develop algorithm on coordinated charging network planning approach considering interactions between the electric craft charging system, distribution networks and the terminal microgrid on an open-source software platform
- Develop algorithm on operation optimization of terminal microgrid EMS and electricity cost optimization on an open-source software platform
- Publish research papers
- Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
- Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
- Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
Job Requirements:
- Have relevant competence in the areas of electrical power engineering,
- Have a degree in electrical engineering. Possessing a PhD degree will be advantageous
- Knowledge of Python/R programming or other types of open-source platforms will be advantageous
- Experience with optimisation algorithm development using CPLEX/Gurobi is highly preferred.
