Job Description
The successful candidate will work with Professor Barbaros Oezyilmaz on applications of 2D Amorphous Carbon under a project on large area synthesis and applications of atomically thin amorphous materials.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
The project aims at developing 2D amorphous materials for targeted applications by developing our novel laser based chemical vapor deposition (LCVD) technique into a unique materials toolbox to construct 2D materials with desired atomic arrangements and compositions. This project offers an opportunity to both collaborate internationally with several research groups and industrial collaborators. The candidates will:
• Develop use case for functional 2D amorphous films to overcome urgent industry bottlenecks, e.g. Cu diffusion barriers for semiconductor industry.
• Perform experimental research in 2D amorphous material device fabrication and characterisation.
• Research output to deliver high impact publications and patent filing.
• Writing of research grant proposals and obtain funding for technology translation and scale up.
• Mentor PhD and Master students.
• Analyse and outline pain points and challenges of relevant industry that would be addressed by the processes and products developed with 2D amorphous materials.
• Identify companies as suitable collaboration partners. Establish industry collaboration towards industry joint development funding and licensing of technology.
• Conduct intellectual property review, identify and recommend possible licensing opportunities.
Qualifications
• Qualifications / Discipline: Candidates should hold a PhD in Physics, Material Science, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Skills:
• Proven track record of excellence in experimental nanomaterials research.
• Background in nanomaterials materials synthesis and characterization is preferred.
• A detailed understanding of the key technologies involved is preferred.
• Strong network for collaborations in material characterization and application development.
• Able to work independently without direct supervision.
• Ability to resolve complex issues and to make technical, administrative and procedural decisions and judgments.
• Well-spoken and written English language ability is essential.
• Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant post-doctoral experience, preferably focused on technology validation of nanomaterial applications. Having research project management experience is strongly encouraged.
