The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences has two open positions of Research Fellow for Excellence in Mathematical Sciences, with the aim to increase the level of expertise and teaching capabilities of the Division of Mathematical Sciences in relation with the creation of new specializations in Mathematical Modeling and Computational Statistics and Machine Learning for its undergraduate program. The appointed research fellows would conduct high-level research to improve the level of competence, track record, and credibility of the Division in those domains.

Job Responsibilities

  • Apart from their research activities, the candidates will teach for the Division of Mathematical Sciences a maximum of one course per term, most likely courses associated to the new specializations in Mathematical Modeling and Computational Statistics or the two MSc programs in Analytics and Financial Technology

  • Conduct high level research independently or in collaboration with faculty in the Division

  • May be required to contribute to the development of grant proposals and/or to carry out some project management tasks for research projects and activities associated to the new specializations


Job Requirements

  • PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Physics, Theoretical Computer Science, or related fields

  • Previous experience in relation with statistics or mathematical modelling, stochastics, optimisation, numerical and simulation methods, or machine learning will be strongly considered
