Research Fellow (2D Materials)

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The School of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE)  invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

The Research Fellow will work on the preparation and characterization of high-quality two-dimensional single crystal, which is one of compulsory and critical parts of our milestone as we proposed in the project.

The Research Fellow will be enrolled in the 2D material growth group, mainly work on the synthesis of 2D single crystal using CVT method. The Research Fellow will be thus part of an exceptional collaborative environment consisting of scientists, postdocs and PhD students with expertise in nanomaterials, spectroscopy, STEM, theoretical modelling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical exfoliation of high-quality 2D materials

  • Fabrication of van der Waals atom-thin layer using the wet and dry transfer techniques

  • Characterization of 2D materials and devices with AFM, XPS, XRD, Raman, PL, STM/STS, SEM, etc

  • Investigation of optical and optoelectronic properties of 2D materials and their heterostructures using Raman/PL spectroscopy with magnetic field under cryogenic temperatures

Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. graduated from Chemistry, Materials, and Optics

  • More than 4-year research experience in related areas including the preparation of high-quality transition metal dichalcogenides single crystal

  • Familiar with cryogenic measurement, e-beam lithography, plasma etching, scanning electron microscopy, scanning tunneling spectroscopy, wire bonding, the wet/dry transfer technique, etc

  • Good personality, able to work closely with the collaborators who expertise in nanomaterials, transport, STEM and computing

  • Professional experience of performing magneto-Raman/ PL and transport measurements at 4.2 K, and be able to fabricate the high-quality devices using e-beam lithography, PMMA coating, thermal evaporation, wire bonding, etc, on her/his own.

  • Excellent presentation skills, with rich experience in oral and poster presentations in international conferences or meetings

  • Have the software skills, like Adobe illustrator, Adobe photoshop, 3ds max, blender, MATLAB, etc

  • Good communication skills in English (both written and oral) are required
