The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applications for the position of Research Associate.  The candidate will conduct both experimental and numerical research to develop two-phase cold plate with enhanced thermal performances at lower pressure drop.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Development of theoretical and numerical model to predict flow boiling in flow channels in different orientations,

  • Development of new channel designs to overcome the adverse effect of gravitational direction,

  • Conduct flow boiling experiments to validate predictive models and characterize thermal-hydraulic performance of new designs,

  • Development of generative design (GD) strategy for two-phase cold plate with enhance heat transfer and reduced pressure drop,

  • Design and fabrication of new cold plate developed by GD,

  • Perform experimental characterization of GD cold plate,

  • Assisting the preparation of the necessary research reports and technical papers, and

  • Work closely with researchers, graduate and undergraduate students performing research such as URECA or final year projects.

  • Liaise with industrial collaborators, building owners, relevant authorities, vendors, contractors, etc on works related to the project

  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and his co-investigators in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in the research team, and perform all related assignments and studies as directed by the PI from time to time.

Job Requirements: 

  • Possess a recognized Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science And Engineering, or related field with experience and expertise in boiling and condensation heat and mass transfer analysis.

  • Expertise in analytical modeling, numerical simulation, development of numerical coding related to phase change processes.

  • Experience in two-phase flow and phase-change heat and mass transfer modeling and experiments.

  • Experience in design and development of two-phase thermal management devices and thermohydraulic characterization,

  • Relevant knowledge in experimental and numerical investigation in boiling and condensation,

  • Expertise in numerical simulation and analytical formulations of phase change heat and mass transfer,

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
