Job Description
The Centre for Holistic Initiatives for Learning and Development or CHILD was established under the umbrella of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS Medicine). CHILD brings together experts in the field of translational research, child development, and implementation science to help give children the best start to life. We aim to improve the lives of children and families in Singapore, especially those who are vulnerable and focuses on the emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of children from conception to early primary school years. CHILD strives to support children and families in a way that is informed by evidence and data that are directly relevant to the Singapore context, and beyond.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated Research Associate (Early Years Practice Coach) with at least 3 years of practice experience to support our work in child development and the early childhood sector.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide coaching of participants in our Singapore-based interventions. Working closely with project teams, the incumbent will:
- Conduct training and regular coaching of community members taking part in our early intervention and evaluation activities, such as early childhood educators, parents and grandparents. This would take place in childcare, community and home settings
- Engage in a variety of project-related activities including preparation of training and coaching materials, stakeholder engagement activities, progress documentation and on-site coaching
- Use standardised checklists to conduct and report observations across relevant settings (eg., in preschool classrooms or home settings) as part of our project evaluation efforts
- Participate in, and contribute to, regular team meetings with project lead and stakeholders
- Work closely with preschool leaders, educators, community leaders, children and families involved in our projects
- Comply with the ethical requirements for the conduct of research-related activities and undertake required training where necessary.
- Contribute to the preparation of project reports, research papers, and other publications as required
Qualifications
- At least a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a practice component (e.g., Education, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Counselling, Health Sciences)
- At least 3 years of experience working with early childhood educators, young children and/or families is essential for this position, preferably with experience in mentoring or coaching
- Strong interest in the area of early child development
- Excellent command of spoken and written English
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams, and independently
- Willingness to travel to various regions in Singapore for on-site coaching sessions
- Willingness to undertake further training in coaching strategies and research-related activities
- Ability to communicate in a second language (eg., Mandarin, Malay, Tamil or other dialects) is a plus factor due to the profile of the community members involved
- Experience in providing coaching or mentoring for practitioners (social science or health providers) or educators is desired
Position and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
