Research Assistant (Visual Communication, Web(UI/UX) and Graphic Design)

School of Art, Design and Media is looking for a candidate to join them as a Part-time Research Assistant.

The incumbent has to be an extremely detail-oriented, talented, and experienced Graphic and Web Designer, UI UX / Developer so as to work on research project front-end website work, graphic design layout for web and art publication output, and art branding.

The candidate should be skilled with creativity and have CSS and HTML experience, so he /she is able to code the site navigation, and troubleshoot the site to ensure that it is valid, properly structured, meets industry standards, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems. The candidate should have strong visual design skills and a sense of digital design and social media content creation as well as skills in designing the layouts for print collaterals. Print collateral including art catalogs, posters etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design-build, edit and maintain website using authoring or scripting languages, content creation tools, management tools, and digital media

  • Troubleshoot site to ensure that it is valid, properly structured, meets industry standards and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems

  • Fix any functionality issues, including the removal of “dead links” and updating and maintaining plugins

  • Perform or direct website updates including being able to consolidate 4-5 project-specific websites into one concise functional site. (For example, moving content from Wix to WordPress)

  • Work closely and coordinate content with the research project’s Principal Investigator including prioritizing projects, resolving conflicts, developing content criteria, and recommending solutions

  • Assist with graphic layouts for print collaterals such as art books, art catalogs, and posters

Job Requirements:

  • BFA in Graphic Design, Art and Media (Visual Communication and/or Interactive Media )

  • Skilled with creativity and have CSS and HTML experience (or JavaScript, Python, Ruby or ASP)

  • Experience with design software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)

  • Understanding of UX/UI (user experience/user interface) design

  • Knowledge of SEO (search engine optimization)

  • WordPress development experience

  • Good visual design sense

  • Experience in responding well to clients’ design requests

  • Portfolio/website archiving past works and experiences is required

  • Understanding of current web design technologies and programming practices
