Research Assistant, Tropical Marine Science Institute

The Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) invites applicants for the above post.

• Regular field trips onboard research vessels that may extend outside conventional office hours
• Co-ordination of field trips, logistics and pre-field preparation
• Operating of equipment for field work on research vessels
• General maintenance of laboratories and equipment, duties including equipment troubleshooting with R & D engineers and vendors as well as performing scheduled preventive maintenance, equipment set-up and calibration
• Developing and managing standard operating protocols, risk assessments, equipment maintenance documentations
• Post-processing of data collected
• Data entry, statistical analysis, interpretation and report writing
• Purchasing of consumables and equipment
• General administrative duties

Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will be for a period of one year and extendable depending upon the candidate’s performance. Only shortlisted applicants will be notified.

• Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
• Meticulous
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Resourcefulness, independence and ability to learn fast
• Ability to work outside conventional working hours, when required
• Proficient in MS Office applications (e.g. Word and Excel)
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English
