Job Description

The Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC) is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the National University of Singapore (NUS), to spearhead and conduct research and development to address the challenges arising from climate change & extreme heat. 

 

We are seeking a Software Research Engineer who will play a key role in assisting in the development, execution and maintenance of the centre’s data lake. The data lake will not only serve as HRPC’s central archive of research data and findings but play an important role in the centres knowledge generation and hypothesis testing journey. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibilities of the role will include:

 

  • Building and maintaining HRPC’s data lake, while implementing functionalities agreed on with HRPC’s Data Manager and researchers;
  • Develop and implement best practices and processes for HRPC’s data infrastructure;
  • If applicable, collaborate with and learn from other teams brought in to work on the data lake with a view towards building in-house expertise;
  • Provide guidance and training to researchers on how to use the data lake.

As HRPC expands the successful candidate will take on more responsibilities and progress towards potentially leading a team responsible for our data engineering needs.


Qualifications

Qualifications and requirements of the role are as follows:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related disciplines;
  • Familiarity with web and database development with modern tech stacks and technologies;
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to build a collaborative working relationship with people at all levels.
