The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 12-month contract at the Natural Sciences and Science Education Academic Group, Multi-centric Education, Research and Industry STEM Centre (meriSTEM@NIE).

Project Title: STEM Teacher Capacity Building Programmes

Project Introduction: meriSTEM@NIE is a Multi-centric Education Research and Industry STEM Education Centre in NIE (link to website ). The Centre is looking for one Research Assistant (half-/full-time) to support meriSTEM@NIE STEM capacity-building programmes. meriSTEM@NIE will be collaborating with STEM education stakeholders (students, policy makers, university faculty and teachers) in Singapore and the region to expand STEM education capabilities in the areas of instructional implementation, as informed by research. The period of the contract will be 12 months and the Programme Administrator is expected to participate in all meriSTEM@NIE activities.

Requirements:

Essential

  • A good University degree in sciences or social sciences
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience with data collection (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Good organizational skills, shows initiative to plan and anticipate work needed to be done
  • Dynamic and shows positive work attitude
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Experience liaising with policy makers and education leaders
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision within tight deadlines

Preferred

  • Has previous working experience in education projects
  • Experience in planning and coordinating small to large-scale events (e.g., conferences)
  • Experience in writing for news, magazines, curriculum materials, and/or professional publication

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will report to A/P Teo Tang Wee and provide support for the delivery of the programmes/events.  Duties would include, but not limited to the following: 

  • Liaison with international partners
  • Organisation of meetings and large-scale events
  • Coordinating other team members
  • Report writing
  • All other Programme administration
