Research Assistant (Micropalaeontology)

The Coastal Laboratory at Earth Observatory of Singapore is looking to appoint a Research Assistant in micropalaeontology, ideally holding a degree in Oceanography or Earth Sciences. The focus of the position is to complete the census and identification of foraminifera from most sediment samples in Singapore waters as modern analogs to the Quaternary geology system of Singapore.

Job Responsibilities

  • Examination of Foraminifera taphonomy of modern surface samples from the Singapore sea floor

  • Lead and coordinate the analysis of sediments for the coastal laboratory

  • Collate and catalogue specimens for archiving

  • Development and application of micropaleontological techniques to Singapore and surrounds

  • Produce a detailed report on the foraminifera assemblages of Singapore

  • Develop and maintain well-documented code-repository and database accessible to other lab members

  • Regularly liaise with project collaborators in Singapore and overseas to ensure effective collaboration


Job Requirements

  • BSc in Earth Science, Geography or Environmental Science

  • Candidates with an emphasis and experience on working with foraminifera are preferred
