Job Description

The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to design and build desirable microstructure to enhance mechanical properties of steels by additive manufacturing.

The job scope of this position is:

  • Conducting literature reviews and understanding state of the art
  • Planning and implementing experiments
  • Developing simulation models to guide microstructural engineering
  • Analysing the experimental and simulation data
  • Writing progress reports and research papers

Qualifications
  • Bachelors/Masters Degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and microstructural engineering is highly required
  • Expertise in microstructural characterisation techniques (e.g. TEM, EBSD and FIB) and mechanical testing
  • Expertise in numerical simulations (e.g. phase field, FEM)
  • Experience with metal additive manufacturing (e.g. powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition) will be advantageous
  • Good publication record will be advantageous
  • Self-motivated, good team player
