Open Research Assistant Position for A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Study

Project Overview
Carbon removal technologies can play a role in the transition to a net zero carbon system. A novel distributed, small-scale Direct Air Capture (DAC) system is currently being developed at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, with the intention of deploying this in commercial buildings. The proposed project aims to conduct a holistic, life cycle greenhouse gas and energy assessment of the decarboniser system. It will account for all life cycle stages, including material extraction, fabrication, use and film regeneration, handling of captured CO2, and eventual end-of-life treatment.

Open position: Research Assistant (RA) on a 12-month contract

Responsibilities
• Perform life cycle inventory data collection
• Development of a life cycle assessment model to evaluate the decarboniser system
• Prepare research publication and presentations

Requirements
• Attained or pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering, environmental sciences, or related field
• Comfortable with statistics and data analysis
• Familiar with life cycle assessments or carbon footprint assessments, ideally in the built environment sector
• Experience in using LCA software preferred, e.g., OpenLCA
• Strong candidates with interest in pursuing a Ph.D. as a graduate student at SUTD are welcome to apply

We seek motivated candidates who can exercise project and research management skills, and are ready to thrive in a dynamic, multicultural and multidisciplinary team. The position involves opportunities to disseminate study findings to an industry sponsor as well as the preparation of peer-reviewed academic papers. Excellent command of written English and oral presentation skills is necessary. The RA position is for one year, with the possibility of extension.
