Job Description
The Duke-NUS Cancer and Stem Cell Biology (CSCB) Programme studies the causes and treatments of cancer and related diseases. The CSCB research groups have diverse programmes in both basic cancer biology and clinical-translational studies, with a special emphasis on cancers that affect the Asian community in general.
We are seeking for a Scientific Research Assistant to help us establish, pilot, and perform scientific experiments including next generation sequencing technologies and epigenetics techniques. The successful candidate will learn and assist the Research Fellows and Laboratory Manager with his/her experiments including maintaining databases, simple data analysis and other lab-related duties as assigned, including laboratory administration.
- Provide technical support to Research Fellows and support research activities within the overall scope of the research project.
- Prepare reagents and perform culturing (including freezing and thawing) of cell lines etc.
- Perform molecular biology experiments (e.g. Western Blot, qPCR, RNA/DNA Extraction, single-cell related and next generation sequencing experiments) and culture-based assays/experiments (e.g. growth assays, drug sensitivity and drug treatment assays etc).
- Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results and research findings.
- Assist with general upkeep of laboratory needs, procurement of reagent, maintain safety protocols, provide technical support and establish work procedures to ongoing research projects.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field with at least 1 year of relevant research experience or laboratory training in basic molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g. Cell culture, Western Blot, qPCR, RNA/DNA Extraction). Applicants with higher credentials may be considered for more senior appointment.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques will be advantageous.
- Knowledge and experience in next generation sequencing technologies (e.g. Whole Genome Sequencing and Whole Transcriptome Sequencing) will be advantageous.
- Possess strong interpersonal communications skills with excellent written, oral communication and computer skills.
- Able to work independently, multi-task, and work collaboratively in a cross-disciplinary research environment.
- A strong team player who is open-minded, energetic, highly motivated.
