The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 6-month contract at the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) , Office of Education Research (OER).

Project Title: The Importance of CARE: Covid-19, Attachment, Resilience, and Early Life (CARE study) [SSRTG 2/21 AR]  

Project Introduction:

CARE study examines stress exposure at discrete phases of foetal and child development during the COVID-19 pandemic alongside data from longitudinal and/or cross-sectional research studies that have enrolled children at a variety of early life-stages. Through CARE study, we will be able to better understand basic questions essential to improving prevention and intervention programs.  In addition, this study also has the potential to generate information that will be of use to societal and educational systems as they prepare for a wave of children who, given the fact that they were exposed to enhanced (Covid-19 related) stress in early life, may, unfortunately, be likely to face an increased amount of socioemotional and cognitive challenges.  

Requirements

  • Degree in Psychology/Science/Biology/Biomedical/Neuroscience

  • Ability to read and write in English and Mother Tongue is essential for communication with parents

  • Team player. To work with Principal Investigators, Clinical Research Coordinators and project managers

  • Proactive, willing to learn, possess good communication skills and able to multi-task

  • Willingness to learn behavioral observation coding/scoring which requires training and certification and is time consuming

  • Intellectual curiosity & Passion

Responsibilities

  • Documenting the scoring/coding/collecting of data from longitudinal and/or cross-sectional research studies (e.g. as follows)

  • Involved in one or more of the following:

    • Code/score videos for maternal sensitivity

    • Code/score videos for infant attachment

    • Code/score videos for preschool attachment

  • Statistical analyses and/or academic writing (e.g., literature reviews, methods sections, presentations)

  • Communicating progress to study PI and Co-Is in complete and timely manner

  • Other study related tasks, as indicated by PI

  • Assist in the implementation of questionnaires/surveys at the SingHealth Polyclinics

  • Translation of questionnaires/surveys

  • Assist in writing SOP’s for questionnaires/surveys data collection, and pilot these SOP’s.

  • Collecting attachment data (conducting visits with mothers and babies)

  • Any other task as assigned by the Principal Investigator
