Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant at the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI), Department of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.  The  CVRI has the primary objective of tackling cardiovascular disease through local and international collaborative research efforts in basic and clinical science. Appointments will be made on a 2-year contract basis with the possibility of extension.

 

Purpose of the post

To perform lab operational support tasks at the Cardiovascular Biomarkers Laboratory (Cardiovascular Research Institute) and to provide technical support for research in cardiac biomarker discovery and assay development. 


Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.      Perform operational support tasks for daily work flow in the laboratory like

         reagent and media preparation, record keeping, purchasing and inventory control.

2.      Maintain a clean work environment in the laboratory and supports compliance

         to laboratory safety.

  • Maintaining chemical inventory
  • Maintaining biological and chemical spill kits

  • Main Duties and Responsibilities

    3.      Provide critical support in logistics of blood and tissue samples for all cohort

             studies coming through the CVRI.

  • collection of blood samples from clinical coordinators
  • retrieving, processing and storage of blood samples
  • preparation of study packs
  • documentation of clinical sample inventory records
  • 4.     Support all biomarker assay activities associated with internal, external and

            overseas research collaborative projects, including data entry and documentation

            control.


    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    5.     Provide technical support to research scientists:

  • Follows written procedures and/or methods, utilizing asceptic techniques where necessary.
  • Collects and collates analytical data and prepares laboratory reports.
  • Maintains accurate data records.
  • Maintenance/calibration of laboratory equipment when needed.
  • 6.    Administrative duties:

  • Processing of invoices and interfacing with finance to facilitate payment
  • Issue of small value purchases for biomarkers group
  • Undergo the procurement processes (i.e., ITQ, ITT, DC) for items above SGD$5K
  • Support all other procurement related paperwork
  • Liaise and assist with annual fixed asset audit / tagging of new instruments / write-off of damaged equipment.

  • Qualifications

    The applicant should have:

  • Degree holder in biological/medical science, life science or biotechnology preferred.
  •  

  • Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, SESAMi portal & SAP system.  
  •  

  • Meticulous attention to details with good organization skills.
  •  

  • Pro-active, good interpersonal and communication skills.
  •  

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and administrative work.
  •  

  • Practical knowledge in microbiology and molecular techniques; experience with PCR, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, is highly desirable.
  •  

  • Able to contribute meaningful ideas and work productively with other research team members as well as on independent assignments.
