The Science, Technology, Society (STS) cluster of the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for two full-time positions of Research Assistant/Research Associate for the research project History and Sustainability of Animal-Based Drugs in Asian Traditional Medicines. 

 

The position is for one year in the first instance, but extendable for one to two subsequent years based on performance. 

 

Successful applicants will receive an attractive monthly remuneration depending on experience and qualifications. Singapore citizens and permanent residents are eligible for central provident fund benefits. 


Job Description

Successful candidates will assist the PI (A\P Gregory Clancey) and Co-PI (Dr Liz P.Y. Chee) in conducting research on or around the project’s central themes: 

  • The historical development of the animal-based drug trade across East and Southeast Asia. 
  • The impact on animal populations of the expansion in TM pharmaceutical supply chains in Asia within the last seventy years.  They will also be in charge of establishing a database (TM Faunal Resource Database) and creating a public-facing website.

    Job Requirements
  • We will consider candidates with either a strong B.A./B.S. degree or an M.A./ M.S. in history, STS, environmental/conservation science, sociology, anthropology, or closely related field, along with a willingness to work across disciplines. 
  • There may be some travel involved to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and/or parts of Southeast Asia, although the project will be based in Singapore. 
  • An ability to read and understand Chinese is preferred as candidates will be accessing mainly Chinese archives. 
  • Experience with constructing databases and websites is an asset.
