We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable full time Research Assistant/Associate who will be based at the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. This position is available on a full-time basis for a period of 9-12 months.


Job Description

For 50 per cent of the time, the successful candidate will assist the Principal Investigator, Professor Brenda Yeoh, in a funded research project entitled “Plastic Waste and Women’s Household Practices in Asia and Australia”. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of scholars based in Singapore and Australia to advance research and knowledge on the social, historical and digital practices that shape women’s household management of plastic waste. The project aims to identify and understand the dynamics associated with household consumption and disposal of plastics in Singapore, Australia and Japan, so as to complement the national and global aspirations to realise a circular economy.

 

For the other 50 per cent of the time, the successful candidate will assist Prof Brenda Yeoh with selected existing migration cluster projects in the institute (see https://ari.nus.edu.sg/clusters/asian-migration/projects/  for more information).

 

The successful candidate will be involved in desk research, data collection, project and website management, writing and editing reports, publications and materials, assisting with organisation of workshops and webinars, as well as providing administrative support.


Job Requirements

The candidate should possess the following:

  • Candidates should have at least a good Bachelor’s (Honours) degree or equivalent in the Social Sciences/Humanities, and demonstrated research experience in a relevant area of the humanities and social sciences. An interest and knowledge in plastic waste, climate change or migration will be a bonus. A relevant Masters’ degree is required for the Research Associate position.
  • Good project management, data administration skills and an aptitude for working in an interdisciplinary team environment;
  • Research experience in Asia, including fieldwork experience is desirable;
  • Strong library research skills and experience in using (or willingness to learn) Qualitative Data Analysis software (NVivo);
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English, and the ability to write for a variety of audiences;
  • Strong ability to perform editing work on manuscripts;
  • Organizational skills for workshops and webinars;
  • Ability to create and maintain a project website and social media.
