Job Description 

CIL invites applications for a Research Assistant position from candidates with an undergraduate degree in law and/or international relations with a demonstrable interest in ASEAN law and policy, trade, economic integration, and external relations. Candidates living outside of Singapore are welcome to apply.

The primary task of the Research Assistant is to support ongoing projects on the analysis of ASEAN instruments and the programme’s research on regional integration, as well as to assist in organising international and regional capacity-building academic conferences and workshops, including CIL’s Flagship ASEAN Law Academy .

CIL provides exciting opportunities for incoming staff to be mentored for international law and foreign affairs careers in policy and academia. There are also opportunities to attend local conferences, workshops, and symposiums. Suitable candidates may also be invited to contribute articles to the CIL Dialogues blog.   

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in law and/or international relations (e.g. LLB, BA in IR)
  • Demonstrable interest in ASEAN law and policy and/or regional/multilateral institutions
  • Driven, adaptable, independent worker with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Good command of English and writing skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Google Drive, Wordpress

About Centre for International Law (CIL)

CIL is a university-level research institute at NUS engaging in legal and multi-disciplinary research on diverse international law issues. ASEAN Law and Policy Programme

ASEAN Law and Policy is one of CIL’s core programme areas. It is co-headed by Professor Joseph Weiler and Dr Tan Hsien-Li. This programme carries out academic and policy-oriented research and conducts intensive capacity-building training and education on ASEAN Law and Policy as well as its associated parameters in international and comparative law. The programme contributes substantively towards a decisive and long-lasting contribution to the understanding of ASEAN and its strong commitment to the rule of law both within the region and in the world.
