Project Officer (Electronic Engineering)

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) is looking for one Project Officer to support the Physics and Applied Physics Intelligent Electronics System Research Projects and activities in teaching laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support school’s research and teaching laboratories with design, prototype, manufacture, and troubleshooting services for general and intelligent electronic equipment such as electronics for smart sensors and automation, not limited to the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence of things (AIoT).

  • Provide design and troubleshooting support on a range of electronic issues, including design, sourcing & implementation of systems for use in research and teaching.

  • Sourcing and procurement of standard electronic test equipment, components and consumables. Manage in-house supply of basic electronic components and consumables.

  • Responsible for relevant equipment in the lab, their usage and maintenance.

  • Ad-hoc electronic related service requests from research groups and teaching laboratories.

  • Conduct training on electronic test equipment for students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and staffs.

  • Support Precision Scientific Instrumentation (PSI) teaching laboratory activities which include:

  • Schedule student experiments and viva voce.

  • Schedule and manage teaching assistants’ lab duties.

  • Set up and maintain course webpage. Design course content including assessments, new experiments and new assessment mode if required.

  • Provide instructions and guidance to students during lab sessions, troubleshoot faulty experimental setup.

  • Collect student reports and consolidate scores.

  • Handle procurement of lab setups and consumables, maintain proper finance and asset documentations.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Electronic Engineering or related field.

  • 3 to 5 years of work experience in electronics workshop or relevant field.

  • Knowledge in selection, sourcing and use of standard electronic test equipment such as multimeters, signal generators and oscilloscopes.

  • Direct hands-on experienced with printed circuit board (PCB) design and fabrication, soldering and electronic circuit assembly service and rework station.

  • Experiences in hardware design and system integration are highly preferred.

  • Familiar with commercial / hobbyist microcontrollers, NVIDIA Jetson, TensorFlow/PyTorch or equivalent, and interfacing with sensors, motors, and other actuators.

  • Proficiency in basics of programming languages such as Matlab, LabVIEW and Python.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Highly self-motivated, creative thinking, hands-on skills, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
