Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our dynamic research team focused on investigating electron transport phenomena in twisted moiré superlattices, such as twisted multilayer graphene, TMDC, and 2D superconductors. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of two-dimensional materials, with a specific emphasis on understanding and manipulating electron transport properties in these unique structures.
Our group is based at the National University of Singapore (NUS), at the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM), which is headed by Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Konstantin Novoselov as the institute’s director. I-FIM is the home to a collection of world experts in modern condensed matter physics.
Scope of Work
Experimental Design and Implementation:
- Design and fabricate devices incorporating 2D materials to explore novel electronic properties. Innovate and optimize experimental protocols.
Measurements and Data Analyses
- Utilize advanced characterization techniques, such as electron transport measurements, atomic force microscopy (AFM), etc. to analyse the properties of heterostructures.
- Interpret experimental results to build up the understanding of the underlying physics governing electron transport in the studied materials.
Publication and Presentation:
- The opportunity to publish with world class scientists in peer-reviewed journals.
- Represent the institute and present research findings at international conferences and meetings.
Training and Mentorship
- The opportunity to mentor students and junior researchers and gain supervisory experience.
- The opportunity to learn the operations of a high-performance research laboratory.
Qualifications:
- PhD in condensed matter physics/nanoscience or any other relevant field.
- Excellent understanding of the basics of condensed matter physics and good knowledge of the field of 2D materials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with cryogenic equipment and electron transport measurements.
- Nanofabrication skills and experience with van der Waals heterostructures assembling.
Salary: Postdoctoral fellows will receive a competitive compensation package based on their experience and qualifications.
Application Process:
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Alexey Berdyugin ([email protected] ), or submit their application through the Nature website. The application should include CV, cover letter detailing their research experience and interests, contact information, and contact details of 2 suggested referees.
More information about the supervisor: Dr.Alexey Berdyugin received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in condensed matter physics from Moscow Phystech (MIPT). After completing a PhD and a short post-doc. at the University of Manchester with Nobel Prize laureate, Sir. Andre Geim, Dr. Berdyugin joined the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2022 as an assistant professor, where he has received the prestigious NUS Presidential Young Professorship award, and more recently the highly coveted National Research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore Fellowship Award 2024. During his research career, Dr. Berdyugin has pioneered the non-linear electron transport studies of the novel twisted heterostructures, with which he discovered a novel current propagation regime. He also studied electron hydrodynamic and recently discovered the giant magnetoresistance effect in high-quality graphene heterostructures.
