Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for one Research Fellow (Postdoc) position in Terrestrial Biosphere Modeling to begin in autumn-2023.

 

The project “Climate-driven changes in the terrestrial carbon sink of tropical Asia” will make use of state-of-the-art Terrestrial Biosphere models (TBMs), in combinations with multivariate observational constraints to establish a credible account of tropical Asia carbon sink in the past 20 years. The overarching goals of the project are to examine the historical change in tropical Asia terrestrial carbon sink, to assess the climatic sensitivities of the carbon sink and to identify parts of the region that should be prioritized for reforestation and conservation as the climate continues to change.

 

The candidate will be responsible for completing the scientific tasks of the project, lead and contribute to publications, and is expected to work closely with the other postdoctoral fellow that will be hired in the project at the Department of Geography, NUS. Besides contributing to the research activities of the project, the successful applicant is expected to support in a broader sense the research of the Ecohydrology group at NUS, thereby providing occasional support to graduate students (MSc and PhD).

 


Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science or related disciplines.
  • Very solid numerical skills, including programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Julia, Python).
  • Demonstration of innovative scientific results obtained during the PhD.
  • Excellent communication skills and capability to present research findings in publications.
  • Open to fixed-term contract (12 months)
