Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the incumbent will lead the operations of a laboratory cluster in MAE. The incumbent will drive synergy and oversee a team in providing efficient administrative and technical support for academic and research activities in the laboratories, while ensuring a safe and conducive environment for stakeholders.

The duties include:

  • Lead a team to provide administrative/technical support for faculty, research staff and students in carrying out their academic / research activities, including operation of laboratory equipment and procurement.

  • Support laboratory teaching classes for full-time and part-time undergraduate students.

  • Manage licenses and safe operation of non-ionizing radiation in the laboratory.

  • Manage chemical activities in the laboratory and ensure proper documentation, storage, and disposal.

  • Forecast and manage budget to support procurement of materials & equipment required for laboratory teaching and research projects.

  • Develop and implement total preventive maintenance programmes for laboratory equipment e.g., routine maintenance, testing, and calibration etc., and ensure they are properly maintained, safe to operate and in good working condition.

  • Planning, development, and optimisation of laboratory space.

  • Asset management and maintaining proper records for inventory auditing.

  • Risk management and conduct lab audits to ensure safety standards are compliant with ISO45001.

  • Ensure safety & security compliance and housekeeping in the laboratories.

  • Appointment in Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee, Staff Welfare Committee.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Marine, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline, with at least 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in management of non-ionizing radiation and chemicals (HS, EP, P&FM).

  • Knowledge on marine engines, fuel technology and engine exhaust gas emission measurements.

  • Knowledge on Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Brayton cycle, Refrigeration cycle.

  • Knowledge on local regulatory requirements (SCDF, SPF, NEA, MOM, etc.) for storage and handling of Hazardous Substances (HS), Explosive Precursors (EP), Petroleum and Flammable Materials (P&FM), ionising and non-ionising irradiating apparatus, statutory pressure vessels and lifting equipment.

  • Leadership and supervisory skills to manage a team.

  • Experience in procurement and budget management to facilitate budget preparation for the laboratories.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.

  • Experience and knowledge in risk management, workplace safety and health, including ISO 45001.

  • Experience in Emergency Response Team is a plus.
