Job Description

The Research Administration function at Office of Finance supports stakeholders in the administration of Research grants held by the University. We provide financial advice and guidance to the Faculties/Schools, Research Institute & Centres on accounting and finance policies and reporting requirements.

  • Ensure proper creation and maintenance of project accounts for reporting and compliance with grant terms and conditions.
  • Oversee the administration and accounting of research funds.
  • Provide support to ensure compliance with terms and conditions of grants awarded by funding agencies/grantors
  • Support system implementation activities and process improvement projects.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Finance Business Partnering

  • Provide financial advice and support to operating units.
  • Provide the necessary support in the implementation of internal audit recommendations where applicable.
  • Partner with various central finance officers as well as operating units in the implementation of relevant procedures / policies.


Operational Accounting management

  • Conduct reviews to ensure appropriate and timely follow up action is taken by operating units. Areas of review include long outstanding debts, dormant accounts, balance sheet accounts and grant accounts, etc.
  • Review for proper set up of Master data accounts for operating units.
  • Ensure budget/fund monitoring mechanism is in place for operating units.
  • Ensure timely submission of fund requisitions and grant disbursements.
  • Monitor research project accounts to ensure timely closure and refunds to grantors upon project completion.
  • Liaise with auditors for timely certification of fund requisitions.
  • Key liaison person for NUS group audit and claim submissions.

 

Projects and Operational Excellence

  • Review processes with the use of data analytics for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in projects and assignments as may be directed from time to time. 

Qualifications
  • Possess a degree, preferably in Accountancy, Business Administration or equivalent awarded by a recognised University. 
  • Preferably with 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience.
  • Good knowledge of SAP financial, project, fund and grant management systems would be an advantage.
  • Have good, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Be meticulous, resourceful with positive work attitude.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Mature and possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, working within a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and a sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge in audit and controls procedures.
