Foundation Model Senior Research Engineer for AI Singapore (AI Products)

AI Singapore (AISG) is a national AI programme launched by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to anchor deep national capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI). 
 

The programme office is hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and brings together all Singapore-based research institutions and the vibrant ecosystem of AI start-ups and companies developing AI products to perform use-inspired research, grow the knowledge, create the tools, and develop the talent to power Singapore's AI efforts. 

A key mission for the AI Products division of AI Singapore currently is to build and release open-source products powered by localised/regionalised Foundation Models (FMs), starting from Large Language Models (LLMs) this year, and targeting other modalities including speech, images, and videos in the subsequent years. On one hand, we need a trained open-source engineer who knows how to package technologies into products/solutions, push and maintain them for the public to use. On the other hand, given the nascency of very large FMs, especially the multimodal ones, there are many important research questions to answer; and we need the same person to be capable of conducting such research. Ideally, the experience also reflects some exposure to the broader Southeast Asia region. 

Our division is looking for someone with the above combination of skills/experiences. He/she will contribute not only to improve our presence both in the FM open-source communities and top-tier publications, but also to set the foundation for our move into the multimodal FM space beyond this year.       

Duties & Responsibilities 

●    Develop and manage open-source FM products, models and resources
●    Conduct the necessary FM research to produce impactful products, and publish the research outputs to reputable conferences/journals
●    Help the team formulate a product and research roadmap in the area of multimodal FM
●    Collaborate with Singapore and Southeast Asia industry, research and community partners to ensure that all of the above duties meet/fit the local/regional expectation/context 
●    Participate in some regional technical forums and conferences as speakers or panelists to establish our thought leadership in the local/regional FM space
 

●    Master (by research) or PhD in AI, machine learning, NLP or related field 
●    Publications in some reputable conferences/journals in the FM-related fields
●    3+ years of experience with NLP/speech industry applications and modelling
●    Knowledgeable in multimodal (text, speech, image) modelling
●    Demonstrate past contributions to an open-source project in relevant areas
●    Possess good communication and collaboration skills with both industry and research communities
●    Have exposure to working in the Southeast Asia AI application context
●    The ability to speak one or more Southeast Asia languages is a bonus
