As a university that places the highest premium on technology and design education, SUTD’s pedagogy integrates engineering and design thinking throughout the undergraduate curriculum. Beyond interdisciplinary, our courses are designed to bridge learnings in multiple dimensions (D), a unique pedagogy we refer to as 1-D, 2-D and 3-D projects.

At the pillar of Engineering Product Development (EPD) in SUTD, a specialized track called healthcare engineering offers a set of uniquely curated curriculum in healthcare engineering and design. For example in an advanced elective course named Healthcare Product Development, students are taught to apply design thinking to selected real-world clinical challenges by working closely with the clinical practitioner partners of the university, and then learn and experience the entire medical product design journey from ideation to prototype delivery.

We invite applications for a teaching track position at lecturer or senior lecturer level in the area of Healthcare Engineering Design and Bio-Medical Engineering at EPD. Duties include teaching of undergraduate courses, advising undergraduate student projects, conducting pedagogical research, creating innovative curriculum, student outreach, and service to SUTD and the community.

The minimal qualifications for the faculty position include:

  • An earned doctorate in healthcare engineering design and bio-medical engineering or related engineering fields.
  • A strong passion and high competence in teaching healthcare engineering, healthcare design and bio-medical engineering. Example of topics covered are the use of fundamental engineering design principles to develop solutions to solve clinical needs, prototyping (fabrication processes and assembly), material selections, testing and verifications and reliability and risk analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • For Senior Lecturer position, prior teaching experience, including experience in technology-enabled learning and prior experiences in pedagogy research are preferred.
