The Earth Observatory of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University is seeking applications for a Research Associate with proven tropical field research experience in marine/coral reef geoscience.
The Research Assistant will facilitate a broad range of marine research projects that aim to improve understanding coral reef geomorphology and the environmental conditions of coral reefs across Southeast Asia. The successful candidate will conduct SCUBA fieldwork and assist with a variety of labwork to collect new field datasets for coral reefs.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct SCUBA field research on coral reefs in Southeast Asia
Assist in sample collection and analysis (e.g., sediment, reef and coral cores)
Manage fieldwork logistics and labwork across several projects
Deploy, maintain and archive oceanographic data loggers
Support project administration, if needed
Contribute to data analysis and scientific writing (e.g. manuscripts and outreach materials)
Perform other relevant research tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator
Job Requirements
Masters Degree in Marine Science, Geography, Geoscience, or related field
Proven experience conducting tropical SCUBA fieldwork (essential)
Prior labwork experience (e.g., sediment analysis, microscopy)
Basic understanding of coral reefs and/or carbonate sedimentology (desired)
Ability and willingness to learn new skills and software
Interest to travel overseas, sometimes to remote locations
