Job Description

The Director of IT Infrastructure is responsible for overseeing the delivery and operations of all IT infrastructure across the University, enabling business capabilities and services.

 

This role brings current knowledge and future vision to transform the IT infrastructure functions, including strategy, service offerings, and workforce. As a key member of the senior IT leadership team, the Director contributes to the development and execution of enterprise-wide IT strategies, ensuring alignment with business values.


Duties and Responsibilities

Envision infrastructure strategy and design
•    Partner with higher management to envision an IT infrastructure strategy, architecture design and delivery processes.
•    Analyse the short-term and long-term IT infrastructure capacity and performance needs for current and future requirements.
•    Provide thought leadership on overall IT infrastructure architecture.

 

Establish standards and governance
•    Establish metrics, key performance indicators, service level agreement and protocols.
•    Establish governance policies, standards, procedures and guidelines based upon business strategy.
•    Assure regulatory and legal compliance of the IT infrastructure design.

 

Infrastructure teams management 
•    Oversee the overall budgeting, performance and staffing management.
•    Develop staff through ongoing coaching, mentoring and career discussions.
•    Define common goals, direction and accountability among staff.
•    Drive effective performance management practices within the teams in accordance with organisation policies and procedures.

 

Build vendor and supplier relationships
•    Build strategic relationships with external partners.
•    Lead negotiations with IT providers and vendors.
•    Represent the organisation with external partners.

 

Infrastructure Implementation and Operation
•    Responsible for supervising the planning and execution of significant infrastructure projects, ensuring their successful completion.
•    Communicate and update stakeholders on the implementation of campus-wide infrastructure services.
•    Identify and recommend new technologies or opportunities that can help the organization save costs, improve security, and enhance the quality of its services.
•    Responsible for the management and operation of IT infrastructure services, ensuring that all IT services are highly available and resilient.
 


Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering
•    ITIL v3 and above certification
•    Minimum 15 years relevant experience in IT Infrastructure management and operations with at least 5 years in leadership roles 
•    At least 5 years project management experience with successful completion of multiple large-scale projects of project value greater than $10M and duration of more than 1 year.
•    Practical experience in planning and implementing key ITIL processes
•    Strong leadership and people management skills
•    Visionary, innovative and adaptable
•    Good knowledge and excellent understanding of emerging infrastructure technologies such as Cloud architecture, Virtualization, DevOps, Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity
•    Competent in putting ITIL methodology into practice, especially in IT operations
•    Familiar with service improvement methodology such as lean six sigma
